How do I breathe while sleeping with Mouth Tape?

A lot of people fear the idea of suffocating while their mouth is taped. As long as you’re not suffering from nasal obstructions such as those caused by the common cold, flu, allergies, sinus infections, deviated septum, or enlarged tonsils, as well as structural abnormalities from birth defects like cleft palate or choanal atresia, or facial injuries affecting nasal passages, you should be able to breathe just fine while you retrain your body to breathe through your nose. Reach out to your healthcare professional if you are still unsure.

What if I am struggling to breathe while using Mouth Tape?

Initially, expect some congestion as mucus thins and airways clear. Start by doing short "nose-only" breathing exercises throughout the day. You can even use a sleep strip during a silent part of your day to start to train your body to nasal breathe. Gradually increase duration and frequency. Be patient, it won't switch overnight. You’re going to have to undo years of muscle memory. Long-term mouth breathing can contribute to changes in facial structure. This can include an elongated face, underdeveloped upper jaw, narrow palate, and crowded teeth. This is why we even recommend using a nasal strip to instantly improve airflow through your nasal passage. Later, enjoy improved oxygen intake, sleep quality, and overall health.

What are the benefits of nasal breathing?

Nasal breathing acts as a natural air filter, delivering warm, moist air to your lungs for optimal oxygen use. This translates to boosted energy, improved sleep, and even stress reduction. Controlled nasal breathing activates your parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and deeper sleep.

What is the impact of mouth breathing?

Mouth breathing bypasses your natural filtration system, allowing irritants and dryness to reach your lungs, potentially triggering allergies, infections, and discomfort. This dry air also impacts sleep quality, while the altered breathing pattern can affect facial structure and even cardiovascular health.

Who shouldn’t use Mouth Tape?

Mouth Tape is very safe for most consumers. If you have a deviated septum you should not use mouth tape. If you have clogged nasal pass ways mouth tape may not be safe for you. If you have a BMI over 35 you are in at risk group for mouth tape not being a safe alternative.

Anyone suffering from nasal obstructions such as those caused by the common cold, flu, allergies, sinus infections, deviated septum, or enlarged tonsils, as well as structural abnormalities from birth defects like cleft palate or choanal atresia, or facial injuries affecting nasal passages. If you are unsure if this product is right for you we urge you to consult with your healthcare physician.

Does It prevent snoring or sleep apnea?

This is a scientific article about the effects of mouth taping on people with mild obstructive sleep apnea who breathe through their mouths at night. The study looked at whether mouth taping could improve sleep apnea in these patients. The researchers found that mouth taping did reduce snoring and improve sleep apnea in most of the people who took part in the study. They also found that it was more effective for people with more severe sleep apnea. Overall, the study suggests that mouth taping may be a useful treatment for mild obstructive sleep apnea, but more research is needed.

It is important to note that this is just a summary of the article and does not replace professional medical advice. If you think you might have sleep apnea, it is important to see a doctor for diagnosis and treatment.
